What is MTPRIDE?

MPTheatricals, Queerly Productions, ALPMusicals & Musical Theatre Network/Mercury Musicals Development are thrilled to present MTPRIDE: an intersectional online musical theatre festival.

Over three weeks, three bespoke evenings of musical theatre will explore queer pasts, presents and futures. Unlocking histories, voicing untold stories, navigating identity mazes and celebrating identities: MTPRIDE celebrates queer beings through the powerful art form of musical theatre.

The season is curated by Lucy Dickson, Matt Powell & Meg McGrady.

About MPTheatricals

About Queerly

MPTheatricals create dynamic entertainment experiences on stage & online. The company brings together the work of Matt Powell: a director/producer with experience working in musical theatre, cabaret, queer performance art and film. Through bespoke initiatives to challenge art forms & investing in contemporary productions, our work intends to:

  • Create opportunities for creators to workshop and develop contemporary works.

  • Reach audiences and demographics who wouldn’t normally consume musical theatre.

  • Experiment with innovations in sound, style and staging in order to challenge what theatre can be & do.

  • Amplify queer voices & histories that may have been forgotten.

  • Tell stories that unite, confront and share something new with our audiences.

  • Explore music(al) theatre’s ability to lift our spirits and emote like no other art form.

Queerly Productions is a queer musical theatre production company made for and by queer womxn and non-binary people. We as a company aim to promote LGBTQ+ Musical Theatre Performers and Creatives by...

  • Showcasing queer performers who are often not considered for roles exploring their own experiences/identities.

  • Connecting LGBTQ+ female/enby/trans performers with Musical Theatre Writers and casting directors.

  • Giving queer writers the opportunity to workshop new material with performers and audiences who will relate to the experiences explored.

  • Bringing the LGBTQ+ Musical Theatre community together both literally and figuratively.

  • Encouraging intersectional queer work, prioritising the voices of less represented communities under the LGBTQ+ umbrella: Womxn, NB folk, Trans individuals and People of Colour.
